Library RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification)
Southfield College Darjeeling, is the first college in the Hills of North Bengal to use RFID System in the Library.
RFID, or radio-frequency identification, is a technology that uses electromagnetic fields to identify and track objects. RFID tags, which can be attached to books, CDs, DVDs, and other library materials, can store information such as title, author, barcode, and circulation status. RFID readers, which can be handheld or fixed, can scan multiple tags at once and communicate with the library management system. RFID can offer many benefits for libraries, such as faster checkout and check-in, improved inventory control, reduced theft, and enhanced customer service.
Use of RFID technology in a library can decrease the time needed for circulation duties since more than one tag can be read at a time.
