Report on Special Lecture:
“Art and Architectural Developments from Mauryan to the Post-Gupta Period”
The Department of History organized a special lecture on “Art and Architectural Developments from Mauryan to the Post-Gupta Period” for the students of Semester II and VI. The lecture was arranged as a part of the faculty-exchange programme. Smt. Soumita Roy, a faculty member of the department of History, Asutosh College, Kolkata, comprehensively explained the developments of art and architecture from Mauryan period to Post-Gupta period. Students found the special lecture as a useful one provided to them at the right time. Students also interacted with the speaker posting many queries.
Southfield College was founded as Loreto College, in Darjeeling in August, 1961 as a women’s college. At the request of the Government of West Bengal, the Irish Branch of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Darjeeling Loreto Educational Society agreed to take care of its management. However, due to the lack of personnel the Loreto nuns were compelled to hand over the college to the Government of West Bengal, hence to be run as Southfield College.
